When it comes to long term investments like taking a 20 year mortgage, whose responsibility should it be? The man or the woman?
The man because;
- He’s the head of his family
- He is expected to provide a roof over his family’s head.
The woman because;
- She’s an equal partner in the relationship.
- The Bible expects her to. “How hard it is to find a capable wife! She is worth far more than jewels!” …..“She looks at land and buys it, and with money she has earned she plants a vineyard.” Proverbs 31:10,16 GNT
Conclusion?
The person with the chance to take the mortgage should grab and secure shelter for his or her family.
You only live once!
Remember the parable of the talents? …“But the servant who had received one thousand coins went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.” …. “‘You bad and lazy servant!’ his master said. Matthew 25:18, 26 GNT.

Quick questions.
- What if our relationship is not formalized? If possible, formalize it.
- What if I don’t trust my partner? If you are formally married … talk to your lawyer. If you aren’t married yet, go ahead and buy the property… it will not constitute matrimonial property. If you aren’t sure if you are married or not, talk to your lawyer.
- What if the relationship breaks? That’s a risk you have to take but also if there are kids involved, they need some form of stability and that’s what a solid relationship provides.
- What if the relationship is on the rocks and I need to make a decision? Go for counseling… from a counselor either professional or spiritual or whoever you think can help you sort out the issues. I wish to add that counseling is NOT a mzungu thing… it is for everyone.
- What if am single? March on as a one man/ woman army.
End note.
Even as you invest, remember to LIVE. Don’t over commit your salary/ income. It’s today that you need to eat and cloth…. that the kids need school fees … that you need to eat a Tajicakes, watch “black panther” etc. Venture out with faith and let wisdom prevail.
